Even A Writer Rests

” And by the seventh day God completed His work which He had done’ and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done.” ~Genesis 2:2

So, I’m all for this Post a Day/ Post a Week 2011  challenge, but there is something to be said for taking a break.  So for January 9, 2011, I didn’t write anything.   Or anything on a blog.  I took the day off.  I decided I was needing a break, I don’t usually post this much.  It was a nice respite and I’m glad I did it.  I didn’t think about blogging, I didn’t blog, I didn’t work on a story, idea, etc.  The most I wrote about was a three sentence thing in my journal and 5 songs I want to look up.  Whoo.  Yup, really exciting.

I’m glad I did.   I feel less stressed.   Everyone needs a break now and then.  Even, gasp, bloggers.  Even, gasp, writers.  I think we get so caught up in writing that we forget there are other things to life.  Like taking a walk with the family.   Watching a new show with someone (in this case, my father).  Reading a book.  Watching candy being made(my mom makes killer English Toffee).

So for me it was a day of rest. And along with that, I made the decision to take a break from Facebook for a while. My goal is one month.  Live one month without doing anything on Facebook.  Only email friends instead of doing it FB style.  Be a bit more personal.  I miss the times of non-electronic conversation. I wish we could get back to only letters and notes in the mail.  Ah, the 40’s. Those were the days.

And on a side note, I wonder how inspiring would it be to write with a fountain pen?  Not really a side note, as that relates to nada above other than the 40’s comment.  Just me being curious.  I have a ‘fountain’ pen from a friend, it’s actually a disposable, but it has a nib.  Anyways, it’s fun, but writes a smidge too fast for me.  I pause a lot when I write so ink tends to puddle… I think I need a finer nib.  But I’m not quite willing to shell out the $$ it costs in Levenger to get a pen.

Levenger.  Now that is a Magazine.  Yes, with a capital letter. Any writer or reader should check them out just to drool.  They are drool worthy. I myself can’t get anything from them. I’m just not willing to spend $27 for 300 pages of lined paper for a special spiral notebook. It’s snazzy. I’d love it, but too much.  Especially for a poor writer.

Curious, are all beginner writers poor?

Okay, so maybe it was a good idea to take a break and maybe not. Seems my post here is quite jumbled and  bouncy.

Writing on
